Powered Roller Conveyor HomeThis is a featured page

Powered Roller ConveyorPowered roller conveyors are very popular in the warehousing and logistics industry, but have general applicability wherever discrete packages or objects are being moved. They are the stronger and more durable than Gravity Conveyor and more accurate than a Chain Roller Conveyor. They can carry bulky loads or loads which in otherwise tear the belt or melt the fabric belt.
Powered Roller Conveyors come in three basic forms depending upon the load they are required to move. Shaft drive conveyors are the cheaper option and suitable for medium to light loads. As each roller has a separate motor, hence Chain Drive Roller Conveyor systems can be used to transport heavy and bulky loads, such as building materials. They are more flexible and powerful.

Powered Roller Conveyors: Lineshaft Drive

Line Shaft drive Roller Conveyors provides economical "powered" bends and curves, and is often used in tandem with conventional straight Belt Conveyors. In this type of Roller Conveyor a powered drive roller runs the length of the unit, beneath the roller bed. The individual rollers are then connected to this by a rubber band, which turns the rollers. However, when a package reaches the 'stop' wall at the end of the conveyor, the friction between the stopped package and the roller will cause this band to 'slip', bringing the rollers beneath the package to a halt without affecting any of the other rollers on the system.
The rollers on this conveyor are typified by multiple grooves orientated directly over the shaft that the drive bands travel in. One band will carry the torque from the shaft to the roller and another band carries the torque from the drive roller to the adjoining roller(s). Transmission from one roller to another is limited as they will lose torque but it is possible for multiple rollers to function in this manner dependant on the loads.

Applications:
Packaging and Parcels (upto 20kg): Line Shaft powered roller Conveyors are excellent for moving and transporting goods within the factory where a product is gradually constructed, perhaps packaged, and then moved into storage or dispatch area. Warehouses often have complex “pick-and-pack” lines. In some cases goods simply need to be stored, and then retrieved en masse for forwarding.

Powered Roller Conveyors: Chain-Drive
The chain-driven roller is all about power and traction. In a chain-drive conveyor, each roller is bound to its neighbour by a chain-and-sprocket arrangement, terminating in a pair of "driver rollers", which also connect to the motor by chain. This arrangement ensures that no roller can 'slip' under load, and gives positive drive to all of the rollers on the bed simultaneously.
Unlike most conveyors, the motor on a chain-drive roller conveyor is usually centrally-mounted, as this allows a more even distribution of torque across the roller bed as a whole. It is still possible to create anaccumulation system with this technique, merely requiring that the roller bed be divided into separate sections, each with its own drive motor and suitable sensors.

Applications:
Transporting bulky and heavy packages: Chain drive power roller conveyors are excellent for moving machine feeders and transporting heavy materials. They provide fast, safe and cost-effective means of continuously feeding materials into building site mixers and machinery. They are also excellent in transporting building materials from a staging area to the actual working area. They can be designed to handle multiple types of load. By utilizing a modular design the conveyor line can carry materials round corners and can be re-positioned as the working area moves.
